The First Consultation

In the initial consultation, which lasts about one hour, a picture of you and your health is built.  It involves:

  • Taking  a full history including your present condition and your past medical history
  • Asking about your family’s medical history
  • Finding out any current medication or supplements you use
  • Discussing your diet and lifestyle
  • A number of general health questions
  • A blood pressure check and any other examinations if relevant

A diagnosis of the underlying causes of your condition will be formed, and if required, you may be referred for further tests.  There is no hesitation to refer you to the GP or other health professionals, if and when necessary.

A management plan is drawn up in co-operation with you near the end of your appointment.  As each person is an individual, with individual needs, a treatment strategy is developed specifically for you, to address the symptoms but more importantly the underlying issues – the ’root cause’ of the problem.  The treatment includes a mixture of herbal prescription with possible diet and lifestyle changes tailored to your individual needs. The length of time and the intensity of the herbal treatment will vary according to the condition.

Herbal Medicines can come in various forms such as a tincture, tea, bath mix, cream, ointment, oil, lotion, or tablets.

Herbal medicine works with the body in a gentle and well-tolerated way.  You can be assured that herbal prescriptions are always given in safe dosages and if you are on other medication or pregnant, you will be given herbs that will not interact.

Follow-up Consultations

Follow-up consultations tend to be shorter and are usually necessary to assess your progress.  Tweaks to your prescription and adjustments may be made to your treatment as you progress towards the goal of good health and well-being.  Through-out your treatment, you will always receive continued support to guide you.

Patients experience a safe place to discuss in depth their physical, emotional and spiritual well-being. They find an experienced healthcare provider who has their best interest at heart and will receive the best attention. You will have a safe space to ask any questions and discuss your management plan.

Western Herbal practitioners are trained to look beyond and beneath the obvious, to find the root cause of a problem, helping the body to correct imbalances and heal itself.  The results speak for themselves!
